Colorful cactus Texas family reunion invitation

Summer is family reunion time, and I’ve started adding some designs specifically for those of us who hail from Texas.

The first one I’ve developed shows a papel picado banner reading “FAMILY REUNION” on the colorful panels, hung between two saguaro cacti. Definitely more of a west Texas look, but still I think it’s cute as can be. Of course, I totally love all the color I got to play with here!

Back of the postcard

The front of the invite has space for your family name, the date, time and location of the event.

On the back, I set up categories for the different kinds of information you might need to convey to your family – food, fun and RSVP. You can edit the text – including the headers – to cover whatever details you need for your particular event.

The invite comes in the postcard version shown here or a flat card that comes in an envelope. It gives you more space on the back, as well as the ability to send enclosure cards if you like.

My most popular tarot journals

In the things I stumbled upon category would fall one of my more popular items – tarot journals. Crazy! I had no clue there would be such a demand for these.

The insides of the tarot diaries are set up the same, with space for either one or three card draws. You can draw your card or symbol, add the question you were seeing to answer, how you interpret the card and an end of the day reflection on how it fit the day.

I’ve developed a range of covers with tarot-appropriate images such as the moon, trees, paths and mandalas.

Far and away the most popular design I have is this gold mandala on a navy blue texture. I have it in two sizes – 8″x10″ and 6″x9″ – with 110 pages of the single-card draw style. The larger size is the more popular, which makes sense as this isn’t the kind of journal you’d carry around with you all day.

The books feature a glossy soft cover with 55 gsm paper. Perfect bound and made in the USA.

School Colors Chevron Volleyball Fabric

purple volleyball fabric

I wouldn’t say I’m huge into surprises, but I definitely enjoy pleasant ones. Which is exactly where I am with the various fabrics I’ve designed. I never would have thought they would have taken off like they have.

Two things come to mind as to why. One is that I try to stick with things I don’t see often on fabric and the other being the surge of people making their own masks. (As a side note, I do have these patterns also on masks you can just buy, so you don’t have to be able to sew to enjoy a unique mask.)

One of the reasons I got into designing products again was that one of nieces was a volleyball player and it was next to impossible to find volleyball items that weren’t pink or ugly. Now, we know I’m not going to be doing ugly, so my additional focus was on making my designs in a wide range of school colors.

And given how many I have, my second surprise with fabric is how popular the purple is. Well, at least I was surprised until I thought about it and realized it’s probably not a school color you can easily find. Plus, it’s girly without being too girly, right?

Zazzle prints seven different fabric types – cotton, poplin, linen, etc. – and you can get them in swatch, fat quarter or by the yard (up to 10 continuous yards). They’re printed with colorfast pigment inks that won’t fade.

Below are the colors my chevron volleyball fabric comes in. Enjoy!

Texas Moving Announcement – Mi Casa

Mi casa es su casa – or in this case – a new casa. It’s a cute (too cute?) play on the well-known Spanish phrase perfect for anyone moving to or around Texas.

Inside the folded card.

The design features a pink modern pattern in the background with the words “MI Casa es new casa” on the front in a dark gray and pale green with a small state of Texas at the bottom. You can see the pattern repeated inside the folded card at the top and bottom. You can customize the message on the right side with your new address and other details. The blank left side allows for a personal message as well.

I offer three versions in my Deep In The Heart of Texas store – the folded card above, a flat note card and a postcard. The back sides of the other two follow the inside of the folded card in design.

Record your spinning adventures

If you happen to be one of those crafters who likes to spin their own yarn, you know how frustrating it can be to create a great yarn only to never be able to make it again because you don’t remember what you did.

(Oh, no. That’s not me. Not at all. Ever. 🙂 )

Among the journals and logs I’ve created are a couple of spinning logs where you can keep track of your spinning projects and techniques so you can consistently produce a handspun yarn you loved again and again.

There’s plenty of space to mark down the details of the fiber you used – weight, type, preparation – and the specifics of the process – spin, wheel setting, etc. Write down the details of the yarn you ended up with and tape in a sample of the fiber and yarn for future reference. Additional spaces for naming your project, the date you first worked it, your plan for the yarn and your rating of the results.

There’s space for 50 projects in all with a handy index at the front for you to keep track of them all. Additional dot grid pages allow you to build your own lists to track things like your fiber inventory, techniques to try or tools.

  • Two-page spread with space for all the details of the project and process, notes and a sample
  • Build your own index in the front of the book so you can easily find handspun yarns you want to repeat
  • Track everything from fiber prep to the specific tools you use
  • Great gift idea for fiber artist, spinner, knitter or crocheter in your life
  • Glossy soft cover
  • Perfect-bound notebook
  • 6”x9” for easy carry
  • 110 total pages, providing space for 50 projects
  • Made in the USA

I have two different cover options right now – one with some cute toy sheep and another featuring some neutral colored roving and wooden drop spindles.

Summer Picks Sale: flip flops

Last day of Zazzle’s Summer Picks Sale, so we’re looking at flip flops in my stores. I’ve just recently started adding these again. In my SusanSays shop, I have a ton of volleyball and lacrosse options. Over in Yarnology, all the colors of my white crochet lace pattern are available.

Summer Picks Sale: tote bags

Tote bags are super functional, so I’m glad they’re part of Zazzle’s Summer Picks Sale this week. I have a ton of these in my shops, but I thought I’d just show off some of the knitting, crochet and yarn related ones.

Tote bags are great for crafters because you can use them as project bags to carry your work around with you when you head out. (Or maybe you’re like me and you don’t take your knitting with you places anymore. Sigh.)

There are basically two types of tote bags available. One is an overall print design style, while the other is an economy canvas bag that prints the design in a square on the front and back. Both are great for our purposes!

Summer Picks Sale: water bottles

Another item that’s part of Zazzle’s Summer Picks Sale this week is water bottles. They offer several different styles, and I do have a few designs available here.

I’m pulling them from all three of my shops, although there are more in the knitting store. The crochet lace and knit fast designs come in a wide range of colors. And maybe I need to add some more to the Texas store?

The stainless steel bottles come in several colors depending on the size you pick, although I mostly like to print on white or steel.

Summer Picks Sale: playing cards

I thought since Zazzle is having it’s Summer Picks Sale this week, I’d highlight some of my designs that are eligible for the 30% off discount. I don’t put my designs on beach towels or frisbees, but I do have options with some of the other items.

I just recently started adding designs to playing cards. They aren’t something I use often so it never occurred to me to try them out. I’ve featured one set of designs below – those I did for family reunions. They make a nice keepsake for the occasion, and you can use them during the event too.
